Natrice Miller is a photo-based visual artist whose practice moves between photojournalism and fine art. She earned a B.S. in Journalism and Graphic Communication from Florida A&M University in 2005. For four years, she was a staff photographer at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where she documented Black culture, politics and everyday life across Atlanta and the South. Her journalistic background continues to shape the way she approaches her personal work, with an attention to people, place, history and the details that reveal something larger about a moment.
Miller’s personal practice centers Black life and cultural memory, with a particular interest in the interior lives of Black women. Working across photography, film, portraiture and alternative photographic processes, she explores beauty, identity, ritual, history and the ways traditions and experiences are carried across generations. Her work often begins with documentation but expands beyond the conventions of traditional photojournalism, allowing her to reconstruct, interpret and reimagine histories as well as witness them.
Her projects are informed by both lived experience and archival inquiry, moving between the observational and the constructed. Whether photographing a contemporary community, creating a portrait, revisiting a historical image or working with alternative processes, Miller is interested in how photography can function simultaneously as document, memory and artifact.
Her photography has been exhibited in Atlanta and throughout the United States, and her short films have screened at festivals in the U.S. and abroad.
