Orange Crush documents the annual gathering of thousands of Black college students on the beaches of Tybee Island, Georgia. Photographed over two years on assignment for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the project examines the tension between celebration and surveillance, exploring how Black leisure, ritual, and community are shaped by public perception and systems of control. Rather than focusing on spectacle alone, the work reveals how Black communities continue to create spaces of joy, belonging, and collective identity despite heightened scrutiny.
